Between Sky and Earth centers Black women within an imagined landscape where memory, dreams, and the natural world meet. The figures evoke a sense of ancestral lineage and connection to those who came before me. One woman emerges from the night sky, her presence dissolving into darkness and celestial light, while another is rooted in the earth, surrounded by growth. Together, they inhabit a space between the physical and the imagined, where memory, ancestry, and possibility intertwine. I build this landscape through the transformation of familiar materials, painted paper becomes mountains and fields, tissue paper creates movement and atmosphere, a doily becomes texture within the land, and twisted brown paper becomes roots. Through layering, tearing, twisting, and arranging, I explore how the familiar can become dreamlike and how the landscape can hold what we remember, inherit, and carry forward.
