The Call
Idaherma loved the world of dreams and finding the beauty in the world around her. I am honored to curate the 8th Annual Exhibition for the Idaherma Museum of Art Foundation. In the spirit of of Idaherma’s legacy of looking, exploring, process and love of color, I am looking for work that has a distinct point of view and that asks what is it to engage? How do you interact with the materials of your medium? How do you see the world around you? How does your work reflect the physical objects of your daily life or travels, your engagement with the natural world or the world of your dreams? This online show is open to all visual media.
Artist Statement and Biography
My work is an exercise in contradiction. Rooted in the linage of Abstract Expressionism and creating a personal visual vocabulary of Queer Abstraction, the work sits at the intersection of abstraction and representation. I am interested in patina, and the in-between spaces. In the tension between erosion and sediment, between public and private, between the wandering lines and the pooling of pigment. I am interested in excavating intergenerational memory and a liminal beauty of queerness. To cobble. To fragment. To mark. To press. To change course. To repeat. To remain. To crack. The practice full of play and acts of small rebellion.
